Claire
So, my name is Claire, I'm from Slane, which is about one hour north of Dublin. I've been teaching here at Citas for a little over a year now and I LOVE IT! I've always wanted to teach since when I was a child, it has always been a dream of mine, and I'm so happy to be able to do that every day at Citas!
How would you describe your teaching style at Citas?
That's hard to say, I combine a variety of teaching styles in the class. There are some days where I love to have the students up and about (usually met by a chorus of "aww teacher, no"), some days where I have students teach other students, and some days where I just buckle down and get deep into grammar!
Which was the best compliment that you have received in class?
Hmm, I don't think this counts as a direct compliment, but seeing students in class smiling and laughing, enjoying English and enjoying learning is what makes this job so enjoyable for me!
Why did you choose Für Elise for introducing yourself? what music means to you?
I chose Für Elise to introduce myself, as it is a song which I hold close to my heart. I have been playing the piano for 14 years now, and Für Elise was one of the first proper songs that I learned to play (well!)! It was always a favourite song of my mother's, and as a child I was a real Mammy's girl and wanted to impress her, so I of course, decided to learn to play her favourite song! Music means the world to me, I can't imagine a life without it, whether it's listening to it on the way to work in the morning, or in a fancy piano bar abroad, I can't imagine life without it!
Do you have any hobbies?
Apart from playing the piano, which I only play for fun now (I used to do exams), I also enjoy reading whenever I get the chance. I don't often have time because of work and other responsibilities, but when I do, there's nothing I enjoy more than getting cosy in bed with a cup of tea and a good book! I also looooove to travel! It's my dream to some day travel the world and visit every country! At the moment, I have visited 17 countries, only another 180 to go!
